Box Lacrosse Tryouts: September 28-29 and October 5-6 · NE YMCA

Travel Lacrosse · 2026–2027

Fall & summer travel program.

One team per grad year, capped rosters, and a season built around making better school players.

Team tiers

Red Teams

The program’s highest tier — competing in more elite, higher-level tournaments that put athletes on the biggest stages.
Pathways to top events

Youth — Bowl Series
High School — IMCLA, Long Island Showdown, Trilogy 24 & more

Black Teams

Strong regional competition designed to accelerate development — the same coaching standards, resources, and expectations, preparing athletes to compete at the next level.

Designations are fluid — not an A team / B team. Players move between tiers as they develop.

Team Structure

U9 (2038–2036) — 7v7 format
2035 through 2028 — one team per grad year
2027 — Senior Fall Only (invite only)

Rosters capped at 22 youth / 24 high school.

Practice Locations

The Walker School, Marietta High School, and Custer Park Sports Complex.

Travel Lacrosse · Player Development

One system, built to advance.

The same principles deepen in complexity from first sticks through varsity — so every season builds on the last, and players are never relearning the game.

Youth / Elementary

U9 – U11
Pass & Cut Offense
Quick passes, off-ball movement, and unselfish play — the ball travels faster than the players.
Defensive Fundamentals
Introducing on-ball vs. off-ball responsibilities.
Controlled Aggression
Body-first defense combined with smart stick use.
Positioning & Communication
The core building blocks of team defense.

Middle School

U12 – U14
The 2-Man Game
Reading and reacting, with more creativity and spacing.
Semi-Advanced Offense
Dodging, creating space, and dynamic off-ball movement.
Advanced Defense
Timing double teams, forcing play from the middle, creating transition.
New Concepts
Off-ball defense, slow breaks, and blind-side awareness.

High School

Varsity Track
Expanded Team Offense
2-man into 3-man actions and layered systems built to each player’s strengths.
Balanced Transition
Decision-making during both fast breaks and set plays.
System-Based Defense
Advanced team tactics to counter high-level opponents.
Recruiting Readiness
Film, showcases, and exposure aligned to each athlete’s path.
Our Philosophy

Better school players, first.

Everything we do is built to make our athletes better for their school teams. We want every local coach to know that when their player suits up for Dirty Birds, they’re getting quality coaching — and a great experience.

Practice Rhythm

Fall

2× per week — one weekend day and one weeknight.

Summer

Team practices 2× per week, with supplemental positional training 1x/week.

Tournament Travel

2nd – 7th Grade

Local and regional tournaments.

8th Grade & Up

Travel expands based on team makeup — any team can begin traveling earlier when competition calls for it.

Development First. Always.

Built entirely around the individual.

Academy is our fall development program for athletes who want extra instruction outside their regular team environment. Unlike a travel team, it is built entirely around individual player development — maximum repetitions, stronger fundamentals, and coaching that meets each athlete where he is.

More repetitions

Smaller training groups

Position-specific instruction

Individual coaching & feedback

Competitive drills

Progressive skill development

Age-appropriate teaching

Ongoing player evaluations

The Pathway

Academy is an extension of Dirty Birds.

Our staff evaluates Academy athletes all fall. Players who show improvement, work ethic, and coachability earn consideration for future travel teams. Placement is never guaranteed — but the pathway is structured and real.

Talent isn’t fixed. Put in the work — we’ll invest in your development.
